Despair to Ecstasy in 60 seconds in the Lions Den

the notorious den - 3 points for Wednesday !

February 4th 2006
Millwall 0 - Sheffield Wednesday 1

The Owls beat their once basement rivals in spectacularly controversial fashion. After a rather dull first half the game explodes to life when stand-in goalkeeper (after Lucas stretchered off) and all round hero Lee Bullen is bundled into the net from a Millwall corner - a goal is given, the home goal music comes on, the Millwall fans and players celebrate near the corner flag. Then surrounded by Wednesday players the Ref indicates it wasn't a goal and that it was a foul against the keeper. The Wednesday fans celebrate but the Millwall fans fail to realise why - the Wednesday players have another agenda and quickly take the free kick, race into Millwalls half and Frankie Simek tucks away his first and Wednesdays most important goal so far this season. The music stop's, the penny drops and Millwall go mad but not half as much as the delirious traveling masses from Sheffield !

Wednesday defend gallantly and record a great victory ! The disgraceful Millwall fans throw seats at the ref as he leaves the pitch and then bricks at the Wednesday fans leaving the ground. A thousand high spirited Wednesday fans singing "we've only come to see the whale" are escorted through London by an army of Police .
