garden birds

Two large sacks of mixed corn have attracted up to 60 Yellowhammers in to the garden in recent days. This is not that unusual as we have had a flock of up to 120 birds for the past six winters and during that time we have caught and ringed over 300 individuals. What is unusual is that some of these birds are now using seed feeders such as the bird in the above image, it is not due to a shortage of food as lots of seed was present on the ground at the time.
Over the years I have never actually had Fieldfares down in the garden but on Thursday over 50 apples did the trick and there has been ten birds present daily ever since with 25 Blackbirds to boot !
