This year I finally managed to spend some time monitoring a local pair of Hobbies which I found a couple of years ago. The pair were back on territory in May but despite numerous evenings spent watching the nest tree in recent weeks the adults have been amazingly secretive. Calculating that if the nest was active it would have chicks I made a licensed visit to the tree last week and was greeted by an adult Hobby peering down at me next to several fluffy white chicks.
I returned today and with the help of a climber ringed the three fantastic chicks in the images above. Hobby is my favourite species and a life ambition has just been fulfilled !
